Once a month, on the second Wednesday, from 9:00 - 10:30 am, 5 lucky parents will have coffee with Mrs. Frazier and get up close and personal with the amazing work that happens here at Chavez Middle School. Cougar Staff Gets Grants for Programs!The 11-12 PLUS team received a $1,120 grant from the Current Wisdom Foundation to go to the Museum of Tolerance. PG&E in cooperation w/ Ocean Connections have generously given 7th grade science 6 classroom presentations and field trips valued at more that $1100. Only 2 schools in North County were chosen to participate in this program-Yeah Chavez! Students will be helping to restore a wetland habitat in Del Mar (San Diegito Slough) by planting natural vegetation and studying samples of algae and water samples, and counting migrating geese. Pictures to follow in Jan and March. Ms. Christina DeSanto was awarded $1050 from the Current Wisdom Foundation to pay for the registration fees for the Leadership Team to attend the Area G Conference at Del Mar in November. Mrs. Cindy Johnson received a grant for classroom materials for US History from Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, which is supported by the National Endowment of the Humanities (NEH). Mr. Mike Florio received a $638.20 grant from Genentech to host a Family Science Night called "Go Green." Ms. Christina DeSanto received $150 grant from the LIFE Foundation and $105 from the Current Wisdom Foundation to purchase Scrabble for the Classroom! Grant Recipients from previous years: Ms. Xye Sanders received a$150 grant from the Current Wisdom Foundation to purchase pedometers for a wellness program. (2010-2011) Mrs. Van Diepen received a grant of $999 from the Education PLUS! Fund at Coastal Community Foundation to fund a school wide keyboarding program. (2010-2011) The Chavez Leadership team was awarded a grant of $1,350 from the Current Wisdom Foundation for leadership training! (2010-2011) The Chavez PLUS team received a grant of $2,100 from the Current Wisdom Foundation for a trip to the Museum of Tolerance! (2010-2011) AVID Teacher Ms. Chambers received a grant of $700 from Target to pay for transportation for AVID to go to the Museum of Tolerance! (2010-2011) Way to go Cougars! |
