Girl's Annual STEM Conference @ Mira Costa College
Our Chavez students received a nice visit from Reverse Order, who is a national touring Pop/Rock band. They've headlined many events, they were a finalist on Americas Got Talent and had a Grammy nominated single (Go). Reverse The Trend is an Anti-Bullying concert and assembly created by the young band Reverse Order to help combat the rise of bullying across America. [Reverse The Trend is 501(c)(3) pending] The band starts the program by performing a few songs to excite and engage the students using popular music that all will enjoy. We found the concert increases their interest and attentiveness. Reverse Order continues the assembly by sharing their individual stories of how they were bullied, and how they overcame it in a safe and productive way. Students are often shocked to hear that even “celebrities” are bullied and it’s comforting for them to know that they are not alone, and they too can overcome and accomplish great things in their own lives.
8 Keys of Excellence
The 8 Keys of Excellence character education program guides young people toward a positive future full of confidence, motivation, creativity, team work, leadership and valuable life principles.

Mexican-American Cesar Chavez (1927-1993) was a prominent union leader and labor organizer. Hardened by his early experience as a migrant worker, Chavez founded the National Farm Workers Association in 1962. His union joined with the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee in its first strike against grape growers in California, and the two organizations later merged to become the United Farm Workers. Stressing nonviolent methods, Chavez drew attention for his causes via boycotts, marches and hunger strikes. Despite conflicts with the Teamsters union and legal barriers, he was able to secure raises and improve conditions for farm workers in California, Texas, Arizona and Florida.
The Oceanside Unified School District will be providing free breakfast and lunch to all children ages 1 - 18 years old. Please see the FREE MEALS flyer below in the NEWS tab for dates/times/locations. Have a wonderful summer!

Kalani was one of six finalists campaigning and spoke in front of hundreds and maybe even a thousand student leaders from across the southern part of California. We are proud of you Kalani!
